Review: Best Western Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

Best Western Petaling Jaya is a 3-star property just outside the perimeter of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and within the Petaling Jaya district. It is what I would consider a "sleeping purposes only" kind of hotel, not because of any negative points, but because there is not much about it either. And sometimes for some travellers, that may precisely be what you need, considering that price point is approximately half of what you would expect to pay at the luxurious Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel.

The hotel was built in 2014, and is part of Best Western International's network of 4,500 hotels worldwide. It is located above what you might call a mixed-use complex called "Centerstage", but actually without much tenants. Much of the mall on levels 1 and G are empty, although the convenience store was appreciated. The hotel lobby itself was on the 6th floor and accessible via elevators.

The room was pleasant with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. There was not much of a view as my room faced the opposite tower, although I believe other rooms across the corridor would benefit from better views. One perk that I enjoyed was the affordable room service menu; you could get a local fried rice for just RM15, which was great value for money by room service standards. Otherwise, dining options are available in the hotel's Kembali Kitchen restaurant near the lobby, or at Jaya 33 mall and Jaya Shopping Centre, which are just a few minutes walk away by foot.

Guestrooms are located from levels 7 to 14, with level 14 designated as a "club floor" even though there is no club lounge of any sort. On level 15, there is the SkyZ Dine & Bar adjacent to the swimming pool, where a barbecue buffet is offered on selected evenings. Also located on the top floor is a gymnasium, as well as a small "sauna" located within each restroom.

This hotel appears to cater to business travellers, as many tourists might prefer to stay within the bustling Kuala Lumpur city centre that is located about 6 kilometers away. Advertisements of the chain's loyalty program, Best Western Rewards can be seen on the property, although there is little guest loyalty recognition here, even for highest tier Diamond Select members. Still, while not impressive nor memorable, this hotel certainly does the job for a good night's rest at a reasonable price.

Best Western Petaling Jaya is located at No.1, Jalan 13/1, Section 13, 46100 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.
