Review: Le Meridien Putrajaya, Malaysia

Le Meridien Putrajaya (stylised as Le Méridien) is the brand's third hotel in Malaysia, after two existing properties in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. Located in Putrajaya, which is the federal administrative centre of the Malaysian capital and houses the seat of government, it is directly connected to IOI City Mall which features an indoor adventure park and an Olympic-sized ice-skating rink.

The hotel is relatively new, as it was opened in August 2016. It has 353 guestrooms over 22 floors, including several different suites such as Atelier Suite, Gallery Suite, Le Meridien Suite and the Presidential Suite. Dining options are limited to an international restaurant (Latest Recipe) and a Chinese restaurant (Le Mei), but it is perhaps expected that guests will find plenty of other options at the mall or within the IOI Resort City.

Guests will find that the hotel lobby is bright, colourful and vibrant, with a generous amount of natural light streaming in. Selected Marriott Bonvoy members are offered a choice of 1,000 points or a gift upon check in; the gift during my visit was a fancy Le Meridien branded mug that would change colour according to the temperature of the liquid within. It sure could be an interesting option for those travelling with children, but I opted for the former.

The club room that I stayed in was well decorated and reasonably spacious at 40 square metres.

The club lounge was certainly a pleasure to visit, as it was staffed with courteous staff who were eager to cater to guests' needs. Tea and light refreshments are offered during the afternoon hours.

In the evening cocktail hours, a section of the club lounge opens up, revealing a spread of hot food, sushi and salad. A live pasta station was also available, which was made-to-order and delivered to guests' table.

A view of the nearby golf course can be seen, as well as ongoing works as this city undergoes continued development. To provide some context, Putrajaya is a planned city that was constructed on previously undeveloped land.

On the third floor is a 24-hour fitness centre, equipped with cardio machines, free weights and barbell station. An outdoor pool is also located on this floor.

Breakfast was available at the Feast restaurant downstairs, a vibrant restaurant with splashes of the hotel's signature bright orange and turquoise colours.

This hotel may be a good option for business travellers, as there are not many 5-star properties in Putrajaya itself, which can make this hotel an easy choice in the premium category. A comparable option is the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel located not far away. And while the area is not an immensely popular spot for leisure travellers, the direct connectivity with IOI mall is a plus point for a weekend stay to relax and unwind.
