Review: Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Element brand is classified under the "longer stays" segment of the Marriott portfolio, and one that is still relatively new in the region. In fact, Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur was the first Element branded hotel in Southeast Asia when it opened in May 2017. It is located on levels 39 to 53 on the Ilham Tower, the same building where the CÉ LA VI restaurant, bar and club is located, which is on level 37.

As an extended stay property, the hotel has a much larger proportion of suites, specifically 120 suites and 132 rooms. With the lowest guest room being located on level 40, the hotel promises sweeping views of the Kuala Lumpur skyline from every room; selected rooms are also fortunate enough to face the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. All rooms feature the Westin Heavenly bed, which is widely acclaimed as one of the most comfortable hotel beds in the industry.

With the Element brand symbolising the values of alive, smart and balanced, the hotel has a number of environmentally friendly features. One of them is the 3M water filtration tap which replaces the typical bottled water found in other hotels. The hotel also provides a reusable bottle for guests to fill, in support of reducing landfill waste resulting from single-use plastics. In fact, the building that houses the hotel, Ilham Tower itself, has the distinction of being a Green Building Index certified building.

As a four-star property, the hotel does not have any club lounge, but a social is available on selected weekday evenings at the hotel bar. Breakfast is offered at the Trace Restaurant on level 39, for which guests should probably arrive early to secure a table by the window for the best breakfast experience.

The overall impression is that this hotel may be a great choice for the eco-conscious or those seeking to live the high life. While the hotel is not next to any shopping mall and is actually within an office tower, its innovative features such as an infinity indoor saline pool makes up for it, and is pretty much worth the experience.

Element Kuala Lumpur is located at Ilham Tower, 8 Jalan Binjai, Kuala Lumpur 50450, Malaysia.
